In 1935, it became the official residence of the presidents of Mexico, when Lázaro Cárdenas made the decision to move from Chapultepec Castle, which was the former presidential residence, to what was then known as La Hacienda de “La Hormiga” whose name was changed to Los Pinos as a tribute to an orchard in Michoacán where Lázaro Cárdenas had met his wife.

Throughout its history, Los Pinos has undergone several transformations and is even 14 times larger than the White House. Today, it comprises four main residences: the Miguel Hidalgo House, the traditional residence of former presidents; the Lázaro Cárdenas House, used as presidential offices; the Adolfo Ruiz Cortines House, used for public events by the president; and the Casa Anexa, used for lodging visitors and private social events. It also includes the old Molino del Rey, the Calzada de los Presidentes, and “El Camino de la Democracia,” adorned with busts of prominent politicians and inaugurated by former President Vicente Fox. It also has the Plaza Francisco I. Madero and several gardens, covering a total of 56,000 square meters of construction.

Since December 1, 2018, it has opened its doors to the public, transforming into a cultural complex where you can marvel at the imposing architecture and lush gardens that will transport you to bygone eras; explore the different areas of the residence, from the luxuriously decorated living rooms to the presidential offices where momentous decisions for our country were made.

For history lovers, the complex houses spaces that recount key moments in Mexico’s history, with exhibits illustrating significant events and the evolution of the country over the years.

The extensive gardens of Los Pinos are a natural wonder to be discovered. Strolling among centuries-old trees, elegant fountains and pathways will give you a sense of tranquillity and connection with nature in the midst of bustling Mexico City.

In addition, we will travel on the new Cablebús line 3 (cable car), which runs 5.42 kilometers from the Constituyentes Metro Line 7 to the town of Santa Fe, which connects the four sections of Chapultepec Park made up of six stations.

In the entire Chapultepec Park project, 10.5 billion Mexican pesos were invested. In addition to the launch of this transport, the Cineteca Nacional de Chapultepec also began to operate.
