Mitla is located 42 km to the southeast of the City of Oaxaca taking the Pan-American Highway towards the Isthmus of Tehuantepec. It was originally founded by the Zapotec indigenous group around the 7th century A.D. It was possibly the point of encounter of the two major cultures of Oaxaca the Zapotecs and the Mixtec. The archeological site offers a unique example of decorative stone mosaic inlay in distinctive geometric patterns that were masterfully created by the builders of this historic site. We will visit the Tule Tree with 2000 years old B.C. and Teotitlan del Valle, the place where carpets from pure wool, dyed with natural dyes are made.
